The Dallas Mavericks (2-6) face the Memphis Grizzlies (3-6) Friday in NBA Cup group stage action. Tip-off from FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee, is set for 8 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NBA odds around the Mavericks vs. Grizzlies odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions for the best bets.
2024-25 season series: Grizzlies won 3-1, including 120-106 win in Play-In Tournament
The Mavs have dropped 3 in a row after a 101-99 defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans Wednesday as 8.5-point favorites. They struggled to keep up without F Anthony Davis (calf), but F Cooper Flagg led the way with 20 points and 9 boards. The 18-year-old is having a solid rookie season, averaging 14.4 points, 6.6 boards and 2.8 assists through his first 8 games. He’s automatic when he goes to the charity stripe – a perfect 24-for-24 thus far.
The vibes are bad in Memphis. G Ja Morant appears to be feuding with new coach Tuomas Iisalo, and trade rumors are swirling. The Grizzlies dropped their fourth straight Wednesday 124-109 as 7.5-point dogs to the Houston Rockets. Morant had 17 points and 8 assists while shooting just 6-for-19 (31.5%) from the floor. F Jaren Jackson Jr.’s play has fallen back as well, as he’s averaging 17 points per game (PPG) after dropping 22.2 per game last season.

Mavericks at Grizzlies picks and predictionsPrediction
Mavericks 104, Grizzlies 99
Sound the alarm, it’s an upset alert. The Mavs are fourth in the NBA with a 111.6 defensive rating. They just can’t get buckets consistently as they’re last with 106.3 PPG despite playing at the fourth-highest pace (101.9). Memphis has scoring issues of its own (22nd at 114.8 PPG) and don’t play as much defense.
I’ll take MAVERICKS (+150) as a young team that plays hard against a drama-laden squad that looks destined for the lottery.
PASS and stick to the value on the ML.
UNDER 232.5 (-105) is the way to go. We touched on each team’s scoring woes. Dallas is 2-6 O/U this season, and Memphis is 4-5.
