According to the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a silver car near Mile Marker 18 on Nov. 5. The driver was identified as William Hatton, 33, and the passenger as Tony Allen, 43, both of Memphis.

Deputies said they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked both men to step out. A search of Allen allegedly revealed a package containing marijuana, while Hatton reportedly admitted ownership of paraphernalia that also contained marijuana residue.

Deputies said they also found a cigarette box in the passenger seat pouch that contained a clear plastic wrapper holding a white powdery substance, which later tested positive for cocaine.

Both Allen and Hatton were arrested for charges of possession of meth or cocaine (less than 2 grams) and possession of marijuana (less than 4 ounces). Hatton faces additional charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane change.

Both men were booked into the Poinsett County Detention Center. The vehicle was towed to Rusty’s Tow Service.

Allen, 43, is a former NBA player who spent seven seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies from 2010 to 2017.
