The Boston Celtics (4-5) visit the Orlando Magic (3-5) tonight at the Kia Center in Orlando for the second matchup of their weekend back-to-back.

Orlando took Friday’s opener 123–110 behind a much-needed breakout from Desmond Bane, the Magic’s major offseason acquisition.

Bane scored 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 2-of-5 from beyond the arc, snapping a four-game slump in which he averaged just 8.8 points on 32% shooting.

Franz Wagner led with 27 points, and he and Paolo Banchero continue to set the scoring pace at 22.6 and 22.2 points per game, respectively. If Bane settles into the near-20-point role he filled last season in Memphis, Orlando’s offense gains another dependable creator — a key to climbing in the Eastern Conference.

Boston, meanwhile, has dropped three of its past four. The defense has held, but the offense has sputtered without Jayson Tatum. Jaylen Brown has shouldered the load effectively, averaging 28.1 points on 53.5% shooting, but the supporting scoring has been inconsistent. It’ll be a long season for a fan base accustomed to winning.

Prediction

Expect the Magic to again control tempo and get more balanced scoring across their top three options. The Celtics’ defense may make this one tighter, but their offense remains too dependent on Brown without Tatum.

Prediction: Magic 120, Celtics 113
