The Washington Wizards (1–9) visit the Detroit Pistons (8–2) tonight at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit in a matchup between two teams heading in very different directions.
The Wizards have lost eight straight, while the Pistons have won six in a row. Defense has been Detroit’s calling card. They’ve limited opponents to 110.5 points per game — third-best in the NBA.
The schedule has helped — with games against the struggling Dallas Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets, plus a matchup against a Philadelphia 76ers team missing Joel Embiid — but the balance has been strong on both ends.
Cade Cunningham (25.6 PPG) continues to set the tone as a primary creator, while Jalen Duren (19.4 PPG) has taken a noticeable leap as an interior scorer and rebounder.
Washington, meanwhile, has seen encouraging signs from its young core — Alex Sarr (18.9 PPG) and Kyshawn George (16.0 PPG) have both flashed scoring upside — but the defense has completely unraveled.
The Wizards are allowing 128.4 points per game, the worst in the league. Their early-season offensive spark has also faded, leading to a string of blowout losses. Ten games into the season, they’ve already given up 133 or more points five times — including a 148-point game.
Given Washington’s defensive issues, expect Detroit — a team that normally doesn’t rely on high scoring — to find easy offense throughout the night.
Prediction
With Detroit’s home court, defensive strength, and depth advantage, expect a strong Pistons win with a 15+ point margin.
Prediction: Pistons 125, Wizards 104
