The Denver Nuggets (7-2) visit the Sacramento Kings (3-7) tonight at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
The Nuggets come in red-hot, winners of four straight, with an offense that’s been overwhelming opponents. Denver is averaging 124.2 points per game — second-most in the NBA behind the Miami Heat.
Nikola Jokic is having another MVP-caliber season, averaging a triple-double with 25.2 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 11.9 assists. He’s simply in a category of his own.
After starting the year in more of a facilitating role, Jokic has become increasingly aggressive offensively — shooting 70% from the field and averaging 31.3 points per game in November, up from 20.4 in October. That uptick has fueled Denver’s perfect month so far.
Still, this team is more than just its superstar. The Nuggets’ core trio of Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon are all averaging 20 points or more, while the team leads the league in assists at 30.9 per game — a testament to its dynamic, selfless play.
The Kings, meanwhile, have dropped three of their last four, including a 130–124 loss to Denver earlier this month and back-to-back blowouts against Minnesota and Oklahoma City, losing those by an average of 29 points.
Injuries have played a role in their recent skid. Zach LaVine, the team’s leading scorer at 25.2 points per game, has seen his production dip to 20.3 in November after averaging 29.2 last month. DeMar DeRozan remains a reliable scorer alongside him, and Domantas Sabonis is regaining form while dealing with a rib injury, posting multiple 20-point games this month.
But Sacramento’s defense has been its downfall — ranking fourth-worst in the NBA — while Denver boasts the league’s second-best defensive efficiency.
That gap on both ends should be decisive tonight.
