Women’s college basketball history was made on Tuesday night as Grace College beat Ohio Christian, 172-91.
That 172-point performance by the Grace College Lancers set a new women’s record that tops what any NCAA DI, DII, DIII or NAIA school has ever scored. The previous record in a game was 159 points, held by both Grambling and Oklahoma Baptist.

The 172 points far surpassed the team’s previous school record of 118 points in a game. They’d already topped that by the end of the third quarter of Tuesday’s game.
The amazing part of this game is that the Lancers only converted 26.3% (10 of 38) of their 3-point attempts, but shot over 58% overall from the field. However, they did make 40 of 44 free throws and forced Ohio Christian to commit 42 turnovers.
Grace College had five players score 20 or more points and eight players in double figures. Sophomore guard Maddy Poynte led the Lancers with 34 points, followed by sophomore forward Becca Gerdt with 28 points and Abbie Ritzema and Emma Sperry, who both scored 21. Morganne Houk also chipped in 20 points and led the team with eight assists. Ten of the Lancers’ 11 players who touched the court against Ohio Christian scored at least five points.

Poynter made even more history Tuesday night as she set a new record for Grace women’s basketball in free throws made in a game, making all 17 of her attempts.
The Lancers improved to 4-1 to start the 2025-26 season and have now won four games in a row since dropping the season opener to IU Northwest a couple of weeks ago. Grace College’s next game is Saturday, Nov. 15, against Cleary University in Michigan.
