BELIZE (WBTV) – A former UNC basketball player recently unveiled his finished $10 million private island in Belize.
The island purchased by Reggie Bullock — who played for the Tar Heels from 2010-2013 — took the internet by storm when a video tour was posted to YouTube and social media.
Located in the village of Placencia on the eastern coast of Belize, Bullock bought what is now known as “Bullock Island” a couple years back. The island has a main house, five cabanas, a basketball court, a beach bar and more.
In the most recent video tour shared by YouTuber Will Mitchell, Bullock said he originally built the island as a vacation home for himself, but has since decided to open it up to travelers. A website is set up now where prospective vacationers can book their stay.
“I came here initially to build my vacation home but I would say probably within that same process, I felt another love for something,” Bullock said in the video tour. “I’m an athlete, right? And I felt another love to give hospitality back to people. So … I just started to turn this into a resort and just try to keep people here.”

Not long after Bullock bought the island, he did a podcast interview with former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
“It’s five acres big, it’s shaped in a heart shape,” Bullock told Newton. “I knew that this was the island because one of my twins’ name is Heart, and the other one’s name is Soul. I was like, ‘Oh it’s a perfect heart island.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, this is it.’”
The Kinston, N.C. native said on Newton’s podcast he bought the island as a way of “coming up with different projects” because “God ain’t making no more land.”
Bullock — who is now 34 years old — last played in the NBA during the 2023-2024 season when he was with the Houston Rockets. Prior to his time with Houston, he played for the Clippers, Suns, Pistons, Lakers, Knicks and Mavericks.
Bullock played under legendary coach Roy Williams at the University of North Carolina, and went to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight twice during his three years with the Tar Heels. The 6-foot-7 guard has his best campaign at UNC during the 2012-2013 season, when he averaged nearly 14 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
