The Golden State Warriors (6-6) hit the road for a tough test against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs (8-2) tonight at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Golden State arrives on the back of a heavy 126-102 defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder and continues a rough road streak, having lost their last six games away from home. After the defeat, veteran Draymond Green openly questioned the team’s commitment, contrasting the current locker room with the Warriors’ championship-era mindset,
“I think everybody was committed to winning and doing that any way possible. Right now, it doesn’t feel that way,” Green said.
Green finished with just three points in the loss, and the rest of the roster wasn’t much better. Jonathan Kuminga led with only 13 points while Stephen Curry was held to 11. Golden State simply had no answers for a Thunder team firing on all cylinders at both ends.
Curry continues to produce at an elite level, averaging 25.0 points per game, but the Warriors still lack a true secondary scoring force. Jimmy Butler is averaging 18.3 points per game — solid, but below the expectation for a No. 2 option on a contender. Kuminga, after a hot start, has cooled off to 14.9 points per game.
San Antonio, meanwhile, is surging behind Wembanyama, who’s averaging 25.7 points per game and delivering nightly highlights that seem to defy physics. The return of De’Aaron Fox has elevated the Spurs even further; he’s averaging 22.5 points through his first two games back.
Prediction
Given the Spurs’ momentum, health advantage, and home-court strength, it’s tough to back Golden State tonight. Expect San Antonio to impose its style, particularly by defending the arc and controlling the boards.
Prediction: Spurs 125, Warriors 113
