The Portland Trail Blazers (5-5) visit the New Orleans Pelicans (2-8) tonight at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans
Portland is coming off two tough, close road losses to the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat, following a surprise win over the Oklahoma City Thunder last week.
The Blazers’ defense remains shaky, but their offense has serious firepower. They’re averaging 120.6 points per game — 8th best in the NBA.
Deni Avdija is a major driver of that surge. He’s having a career year, averaging 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. Jerami Grant continues to be a steady frontcourt force at 19.7 points per game, and the backcourt duo of Shaedon Sharpe and Jrue Holiday adds another 36.7 points per game. That balance — inside and out — keeps defenses guessing.
The Pelicans, meanwhile, have dropped two straight after picking up their first two wins of the season last week. Those wins came without Zion Williamson, who remains out. Trey Murphy III is a big reason why. He’s stepped up in Zion’s absence, averaging 22.6 points per game this month, including a 41-point outburst against the San Antonio Spurs over the weekend.
But even with Murphy’s surge, New Orleans’ depth issues are mounting.
Prediction
Given Portland’s roster stability and New Orleans’ struggles, the Blazers hold a clear advantage.
Prediction: Trail Blazers 128, Pelicans 119
