The Chicago Bulls (6-4) and the Detroit Pistons (9-2) face off tonight at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
The Pistons currently sit atop a crowded Eastern Conference, with five teams holding seven wins right behind them. Detroit enters the matchup riding a seven-game winning streak.
Their success has come partly from a lighter stretch of the schedule, featuring recent games against the Dallas Mavericks, Brooklyn Nets, and Washington Wizards.
Still, their dominance has been built on balance — especially defense. The Pistons rank fourth in the NBA in defensive rating, while their offense sits around the middle of the pack at 118.0 points per game (16th). The combination gives them a +5.3 net rating, sixth best in the league.
Chicago, meanwhile, opened the season with a 115–111 win over Detroit but has cooled off since. The Bulls have dropped three straight and four of their last five, though that skid includes losses to tough opponents like the New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and San Antonio Spurs.
Detroit will be without Ausar Thompson tonight, while Josh Giddey will be on the sideline for the Bulls. Cade Cunningham (Pistons) and Jalen Duren (Pistons) are all game-time decisions.
Giddey’s absence is a big blow for Chicago. He’s been flirting with a triple-double average this season (21.4 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 9.3 APG).
Cunningham has led Detroit with 27.5 points, 9.9 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game. Duren has also been dominant inside, averaging 19.4 points and 12.0 rebounds.
Prediction
With Giddey out, this game tips in the favor of Detroit. But Cunningham and Duren are currently gametime decisions — and Cunningham’s absence in particular would hinder the Pistons’ ball movement.
Prediction: Pistons 112, Bulls 108
