After his dismal comeback from injury, the Philadelphia 76ers have made a roster adjustment concerning Jared McCain. McCain’s performance in the early part of the 2025–26 NBA season has fallen short of expectations, as he has missed a significant amount of time due to a torn UCL in his shooting hand. After a long break from competitive play, Jared McCain, the 16th overall choice in the previous year’s draft, has struggled to recover his form.
Struggles on the CourtHe has only averaged 0.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in his first three games back, shooting 0 for 9 from the floor and failing to score any points. Due to his difficulties, the 76ers sent the 21-year-old to the G League, where he regained vital playing experience and became accustomed to the demands of professional basketball.
Focus on Recovery and DevelopmentAdam Aaronson, a 76ers source, revealed the decision, emphasising that it is intended to help McCain reintegrate into the game. Despite persistent injury issues, Tyrese Maxey is crucial to the 76ers’ success as they presently have a 7-4 record this season. McCain’s lack of involvement has been especially apparent as the organisation looks to maximise its performance and roster.
McCain might be able to recapture the self-assurance and skill set he demonstrated before his injury, when he averaged 15.3 points per game and shot 46% from the field, by participating in the G League. The 76ers anticipate that this calculated move will help McCain grow and enable him to return more robustly for the rest of the campaign.
