Verizon Business has completed a 100G dedicated optical ring that will serve as the broadcast and content creation network for Monumental Sports & Entertainment, the company announced Thursday.

The network will support Monumental Sports Network, the independent regional media platform that holds exclusive local broadcast rights for the Washington Capitals, Wizards, Mystics and Capital City Go-Go.

The optical ring connects four key facilities: Capital One Arena, MedStar Capitals Iceplex, MedStar Health Performance Center and Monumental Sports’ corporate headquarters and broadcast facility. The network is designed to provide corporate resilience and optimize broadcast production starting with the 2025-26 NHL and NBA seasons.

“The foundational investment in our network will enable the innovations of tomorrow and deliver a world-class, next-generation broadcast experience for our partners and fans,” said Charlie Myers, chief technology officer for Monumental Sports.

The network will support Monumental Sports’ shift toward remote production models, allowing the company to centralize operations and reduce its on-site infrastructure footprint and carbon emissions. The private, high-capacity network will enable production teams to create game and player content at any of the connected facilities.

“The media and entertainment landscape is undergoing a massive digital transformation, moving away from legacy capital-intensive systems to flexible, IP-based, remote work environments,” said Daniel Lawson, senior vice president of global solutions at Verizon Business.

Monumental Sports Network programming is available through the Monumental+ app and monumentalplus.com, accessible on phones, tablets, computers and smart TVs.
