Cade Cunningham on Pistons start: ‘We’re where we’re supposed to be’

A month after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, Jaden Ivey is inching closer to returning.
The fourth-year guard was spotted at the Detroit Pistons‘ morning shootaround on Friday, Nov. 14, at the team’s Midtown practice facility before their NBA Cup group play game against the Philadelphia 76ers at Little Caesars Arena. The team initially set a four-week re-evaluation date following his knee procedure on Oct. 16, and Ivey is just now returning to on-court work.

Ivey played 14 minutes in the Pistons’ preseason opener against the Memphis Grizzlies on Oct. 3, but missed their remaining three preseason games with what coach J.B. Bickerstaff characterized as “discomfort.” He’s now 10 months removed from a broken left fibula suffered on New Year’s Day at home against the Orlando Magic.
Before the injury, Ivey was in the midst of a breakout season averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and four assists per game on 46% overall shooting and 40.9% shooting from 3. The team has continued to win during his absence, improving to 10-2 this season following Wednesday’s 124-113 win over the Chicago Bulls with most of their rotation, including Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren, in street clothes.
The Pistons once have a long injury report heading into Friday’s game against the 76ers. In addition to Ivey, Ausar Thompson (right ankle sprain), Tobias Harris (right ankle sprain) and Marcus Sasser (right hip impingement) are all listed as out. The latter two have yet to make their season debuts. Friday will be Thompson’s third straight absence, Harris’ seventh straight and Isaiah Stewart’s fourth (if he’s ruled out).
Cunningham (left hip contusion), Duren (right ankle sprain) and Isaiah Stewart (left ankle sprain) are all listed as “questionable.”
