The struggling Brooklyn Nets (1-10) visit the Orlando Magic (6-6) tonight at the Kia Center in Orlando.
Brooklyn enters the night as one of just three NBA teams with a single win — and that lone victory came against fellow cellar-dweller, the Indiana Pacers. The Nets’ offense has sputtered at 109.9 points per game, while their defense has collapsed entirely, posting a league-worst 126.3 defensive rating.
The loss of Cam Thomas (left hamstring strain), their second-leading scorer, only deepens the hole — though it does offer a silver lining. Rookie guard Egor Demin, the No. 8 pick in this year’s draft, has stepped into a starting role and shown meaningful growth.
Demin is coming off a 16-point performance against the Toronto Raptors, shooting 5-of-11 from the field, 4-of-8 from three, and adding five assists. For a roster loaded with recent first-rounders, this forced developmental runway may ultimately be one of the few positives of Brooklyn’s season.
Orlando, meanwhile, has won two straight, including a 124–107 statement win at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday despite the early exit of Paolo Banchero, who remains out with a groin injury. Franz Wagner’s 28 points led the way, but the more telling trend is Desmond Bane’s surge.
Bane delivered 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting (3-of-6 from deep) — his second straight 22-point outing and his third in four games. All three of those have been Magic wins, underscoring how closely Orlando’s offense now tracks with Bane’s production.
Prediction
With Brooklyn’s limited scoring punch and Orlando’s improved form — even without Banchero — the Magic hold a clear advantage.
Prediction: Magic 124, Nets 104
