Although much of the focus in college basketball recruiting has shifted to the 2026 cycle, 2025 is not entirely done with. This week, Eric Musselman and USC men’s basketball continued add to their 2025 recruiting class when the Trojans picked up a commitment from guard Patrick O’Brien.

O’Brien is from San Diego, California. He is not currently ranked by 247Sports or On3’s recruiting rankings.

Here is what FanSided USC site Reign of Troy had to say about O’Brien:

“Standing at 6’5”, Patrick O’Brien is a capable shooter from the outside and is coming off a strong senior season at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, California. For his varsity team, as well as on the AAU circuit, he showed an ability to run the offense and ensure that he led the offense to score points.

As mentioned, he’s capable of knocking down outside shots. O’Brien also does a good job of getting into the teeth of the defense, dishing to open teammates who are well-positioned to convert as well.”

It seems highly unlikely that O’Brien will see much playing time for the Trojans next season. With some development under Musselman, however, he could potentially emerge as a valuable depth piece down the line.
