The LA Clippers (3-8) visit the Dallas Mavericks (3-9) tonight at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Both teams badly need a win, but the urgency is highest for the Clippers, who have dropped six straight and struggled to score. During a four-game stretch in the skid, they averaged just 103.5 points per game. The absence of Kawhi Leonard — sidelined with a right foot sprain compounded by a preexisting right ankle issue suffered in a one-point loss to the Miami Heat on Nov. 3 — has gutted their offense.

James Harden has taken on the offensive burden, averaging 23.4 PPG, but the supporting cast has been thin. Leonard was putting up 24.3 PPG before his injury, Bradley Beal is out for the season following hip surgery, and the departure of Norman Powell — now the leading scorer on Miami’s league-best attack — has left a major hole in LA’s depth.

As for the Mavericks, their struggles have cost GM Nico Harrison his job, but there’s little they can do until Kyrie Irving returns later this season. They have the lowest-scoring offense in the league at 107.8 PPG. If and when Anthony Davis returns, he’ll give them a strong interior presence — but he’s not a player to build a team around at this stage.

The best they can hope for is developing No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, who has had a rough start to his NBA career but is trending upward, including a 26-point performance against the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night.

Prediction

This matchup is tough to call given both teams’ issues, but Harden’s ability to generate offense in bunches gives LA a slight edge.

Prediction: Clippers 112, Mavericks 109
