What do a carousel, a grail, a ghost, Mad Men, and your feelings about basketball have in common? For author Shea Serrano, everything — and he lays out a compelling case for why that is in his new book “Expensive Basketball.” The book is a novel way of engaging W/NBA history, yet also maybe the oldest, which is another way to say that Serrano gives us the ultimate tour of the two best leagues in the sport, and he does it from where it counts most — our collective emotional reservoirs.

And if you happen to be the sort of math-brained fan of the league who revels in the numbers, there’s something for you there as well, as those ineffable moments are presented to us in discrete, bite-sized chunks that can be breadcrumbs for a learning experience, or glorious drops of nostalgia to connect in our shared memories.

The hosts of “Havlicek Stole the Pod” sat down with Serrano on a recent episode of their show (excuse the camera glitch) to talk over the tome, out as of the end of October at your favorite (preferably independent) bookseller. Check out the pod below!
