After last night’s 105-98 loss at the Magic, the Nets are 0-2 in Group East B of the NBA Cup standings. Brooklyn has the worst point differential in the group and has scored the least amount of points. The Nets still have to face the Celtics and 76ers as part of group play. https://t.co/ZNZhAgRbBJ

The Brooklyn Nets (1-11) have not had much to be happy about this season as they are in the midst of a four-game losing streak after losing their first seven games of the year. Brooklyn knows that they are not competing for an NBA championship this season, but there was the prospect of winning the NBA Cup. That seems to be fading away, however.
The Nets lost at the Magic on Friday 105-98 as part of group play and with the loss, Brooklyn is 0-2 in the East Group B bracket. Granted, the Nets have the same record within the group as the Philadelphia 76ers, but Brooklyn has the worst point differential and the least amount of points scored within the field, making it unlikely they will be able to turn things around by the end of November.
For those that need a refresher on how the NBA Cup works, the knockout round will consist of 4 teams from each conference, with the fourth team being the wildcard team. If the Nets aren’t able to win their group, they would have the chance to make it to the knockout round by essentially being the fourth-best team in terms of record and point differential, but neither is in their favor right now.
The Detroit Pistons are leading the group with a 2-0 record, +27 point differential, and 239 points scored while the Magic are in second place at 2-0, +20 point differential, and 228 points scored. The Boston Celtics are in third place as they sit at 1-1 with a -12 point differential and 219 points scored while the aforementioned 76ers are in fourth place at 0-2 with a -10 point differential and 213 points scored.
Ultimately, the Nets have bigger problems to worry about at this point than the NBA Cup as they can’t seem to get out of their own way in most games. Despite amassing as much as a 16-point lead, the Nets lost to an Orlando team sans forward Paolo Banchero and the fourth quarter of Friday’s loss seems to have generated more questions than answers at this time.
