The Brooklyn Nets have plenty of issues to address as they are on a four-game losing streak following some tough losses to teams like the Orlando Magic on Friday. Brooklyn has a solid chance of picking up their second win of the 2025-26 NBA season with a looming matchup at the Washington Wizards that could have implications regarding draft positioning for the 2026 NBA Draft.
The Nets announced on Saturday that rookies Nolan Traore, Ben Saraf, and Danny Wolf are out for Sunday’s game at the Wizards as they remain on their G League assignment with the Long Island Nets. Head coach Jordi Fernandez has been trying to give as many of the five rookies playing time in the NBA, but so far, he has chosen to put guard Egor Demin and forward Drake Powell in the rotation as of this writing.
“We have a detailed schedule weekly. Once again, if we go through the year and those guys don’t play enough games, it’s on us,” Fernandez said prior to Friday’s 105-98 NBA Cup loss at the Magic, per Cody Taylor of Rookie Wire. “We want those guys to play 60 games. Games are valuable, and everybody thinks I want to play NBA games. But also, every game matters, and earning it and taking advantage of every game is important.”
The Nets did have Saraf in the rotation in the beginning of the season, but due to some of the learning curves that he’s facing, Fernandez chose to have him getting reps in the G League for development purposes. Brooklyn came into the season with five rookies in total, three at the point guard spot, and with veterans like Tyrese Martin on the team, it’s hard for Fernandez to play all of the rookies without taking some of the veterans off the court.
In what has been an interesting development for the Nets as they try to see which rookies will be able to contribute for the franchise moving forward, Demin played just 18 minutes against the Magic. Demin ended the game with eight points, three rebounds, and two assists, but he shot just 2-of-9 from the field so Fernandez chose to go with Martin down the stretch, but he struggled to a 2-of-7 shooting performance from the floor as well.
