Dallas Mavericks vs Portland Trail Blazers Preview
The Dallas Mavericks look very bad at the start of this season. After 13 games, they have only three wins (Toronto Raptors, Washington Wizards and Indiana Pacers) and are sitting in the second-to-last spot in the Western Conference. Recently, they finally decided to fire Nico Harrison, the man who thought it was a good idea to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis. However, that hasn’t brought any improvement, and the Mavericks enter this game on a three-game losing streak.
The latest of those losses came at home against the Los Angeles Clippers, after overtime, 133-127. If there is anything Mavericks fans can be encouraged by, it’s that the team has shown progress in their last three games. Even though they were all losses, none of them were by double digits, which shows they are able to keep up with their opponents until the very end. In the loss to the Clippers, the most efficient players were Naji Marshall and D’Angelo Russell with 28 points each. Cooper Flagg also showed signs of waking up after a very slow start to the season. The Mavericks have major injury problems as well, and they’ve been without Anthony Davis for a while, while P.J. Washington and Dereck Lively also missed the Clippers game. What’s interesting is that the Mavericks are actually playing fantastic defense — they rank fourth in the league in defensive rating at 112.2 points allowed per 100 possessions. However, that can’t make up for the fact that their offense has been dreadful, as they are by far the worst offensive team in the league with just 105.6 points per 100 possessions.
On the other side are the Portland Trail Blazers, who also have a very turbulent start to the season. Right out of the gate, head coach Chauncey Billups was arrested for involvement in illegal gambling. Still, that didn’t disrupt the team too much, and after 12 games they sit at an even record, which was more or less expected from them. They play in a hot-and-cold rhythm, and so far haven’t had any big streaks of either wins or losses. They aren’t entering this matchup in the best mood, considering they suffered a blowout on the road against the Houston Rockets, losing 140-116.
Simply put, the Rockets controlled the game from start to finish and never allowed the Trail Blazers to even think about a possible win. The biggest problem for Portland in that game was their 20 turnovers, compared to only six committed by the Rockets. As usual, the most efficient player for the Oregon team was Deni Avdija, who is having a fantastic season. He scored 22 points and added 10 rebounds. Shaedon Sharpe contributed 19 points, while Toumani Camara added 16. The team’s leading scorer this season is Avdija at 25.8 points per game, while Sharpe is also improving and is now at 20.9. The contributions of veteran Jrue Holiday and Jerami Grant also shouldn’t be overlooked. When it comes to team statistics, the Trail Blazers are in the middle of the league in both offensive and defensive rating. Throughout the season they’ve struggled with turnovers (16.7 per game), as well as defensive rebounding, where they rank as the third-worst team in the league in defensive boards secured.

Injuries and Suspensions

Dallas Mavericks vs Portland Trail Blazers Best Betting Tip and Prediction
Although they have lost their last three games, the Dallas Mavericks have looked much better recently and fell short only in the final moments. Now, considering they are facing the Portland Trail Blazers, a team that has been inconsistent of late, we expect a tight battle. We believe the Mavericks will stay competitive until the very end, so our suggestion is that they will not lose by more than the given handicap.
