NBA teams kicking the tires on an Anthony Davis trade want to see one thing before getting serious. They want him lighter.
That’s according to Ashish Mathur of Dallas Hoops Journal, who reports interested teams are hoping the Mavericks star sheds weight to regain the mobility that has defined most of his career.
Dallas listed Davis at 268 pounds entering training camp — about 15 heavier than his final season with the Lakers.
ESPN previously reported that Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont has requested extensive medical data to ensure Davis isn’t at heightened injury risk before returning from a left calf strain. He has played only five games this fall and just 14 total since arriving in the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade.
When healthy, Davis is still producing. He’s averaging 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks while shooting 52 percent from the field.
But the Mavericks are 3-10, Nico Harrison is out, and league sources continue to view Davis as the most likely star to be moved next.
Davis is earning $54.1 million this season, will make $58.5 million next year and holds a $62.8 million player option for 2027–28.
Klutch Sports’ Rich Paul represents him, and according to reports, the Mavericks are expected to collaborate with Davis’ camp as they map out potential in-season trade scenarios.
