The Brooklyn Nets notched their second win of the 2025-26 NBA season on Sunday when they beat the Washington Wizards 129-106 thanks in large part to forward Michael Porter Jr.’s 34 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. However, Brooklyn experienced a setback in the development of one of their rookies after he suffered an ankle injury over the weekend.
“Ben Saraf got hurt with a second left in the first half of Long Island’s last game playing on G League assignment. He hopped to the bench and didn’t return,” Brian Lewis of the New York Post wrote on X prior to Sunday’s win over the Wizards. There was a video posted on X (h/t to NetsDaily’s Scott Mitchell) that showed the play in which Nets rookie guard Ben Saraf suffered what appears to be a left ankle injury.
“Told it’s an ankle injury and he’s being evaluated today. They don’t expect an update until Monday,” Lewis continued in his post on X. As is standard practice in the NBA, it usually takes a few days for a team’s medical staff to determine the extent of a player’s injury and given that Saraf was hurt while on a G League assignment, Brooklyn could choose to be cautious with him following his injury.
Saraf, 19, had began this season as the starting point guard for head coach Jordi Fernandez, but eventually lost his job to veteran Tyrese Martin with Fernandez looking for more consistency at that spot. After Saraf went from being a starter to essentially out of Brooklyn’s rotation, it made sense to send Saraf to Long Island so that he could get more game reps than he would with Brooklyn at this point in the season.
In four games played at the G League level, Saraf is averaging 14.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 46.5% from the field and 28.6% from three-point land. Depending on how much time Saraf has to miss with his ankle injury, someone like fellow rookie Nolan Traore could see more minutes for Long Island in the near future.
