Spurs
The Spurs will be without Victor Wembanyama for a bit. The team announced the star center has a left calf strain after undergoing an MRI.
He suffered the injury in Friday’s loss to the Warriors, and ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wembanyama is expected to miss “a few weeks.”
Wembanyama had been rolling through his first 12 games, averaging 26 points, 12.9 rebounds and a league-best 3.6 blocks in 34.7 minutes. He’s also shooting 50 percent from the field while hitting better than 34 percent on threes.
He sat out Sunday’s game as San Antonio waits out the soreness and lets the calf cool down. Head coach Mitch Johnson said the issue popped up Friday, and the team sent him for testing.
Michael C. Wright of ESPN noted Wembanyama was in good spirits afterward, wearing a small sleeve on the calf but showing no obvious discomfort.
Still, San Antonio is known for being extra cautious, and calf strains have a way of lingering.
Suns
Phoenix is making a two-way move. The Suns are signing Jamaree Bouyea to a two-way deal, per Shams Charania, and waiving rookie CJ Huntley to open the slot.
Bouyea, 24, had been playing with the Austin Spurs in the G League after brief stints with Miami, Washington, Portland, San Antonio and Milwaukee.
He’s appeared in 19 NBA games overall and averaged 2.8 points in limited minutes.
Bouyea joins two-way players Koby Brea and Isaiah Livers as Phoenix continues to tinker with the back end of the roster.
Sixers
Paul George is expected to make his season debut tonight against the Clippers, according to Charania.
That follows Sunday’s practice, where both George and Joel Embiid were full participants, per Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports.
George missed the first 12 games while recovering from offseason knee surgery. It’s been a long climb back after his least productive season since 2011–12, averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists last year.
Philadelphia has held steady at 7-5 despite minimal action from Embiid, who has appeared in just six games.
Trendon Watford has been one of the fill-ins, starting the past four games and giving the Sixers 9.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per night.
