For Moses Moody, six 3-pointers in a game had long been the limit. He had hit that mark twice, once as a rookie and once earlier this season, but had never gone higher — until Sunday night.
The Warriors guard joked after Golden State’s 124-106 win over the New Orleans Pelicans that he had been chasing a family record for years.
“That’s actually my first time having eight threes,” Moody told reporters postgame. “But I got an uncle that told me when I was young the most he hit was eight, so I’ve been trying to get it my whole life. It’s like people put a curse on me. I’ve never gotten it, so I’ll probably give him this jersey or something.”
There was nothing cursed about Moody’s night. The third-year guard erupted for a career-high 32 points and a career-best eight 3-pointers in the Warriors’ third straight road win, scoring 21 in the first quarter on seven made threes. He joined Steph Curry and Klay Thompson as the only players in franchise history to make seven 3-pointers in a single quarter.
Moody finished 10-of-16 shooting from the field and 8 of 12 from deep, adding four rebounds in 33 minutes. It was Moody’s highest-scoring game since his rookie season, when he set his career high with 30 points.
With the family “curse” finally broken, the Warriors will continue to look to Moody to keep the threes falling this season.
