Although Paolo Banchero was ruled out of his third consecutive contest due to a left groin strain prior to the Magic hosting the Warriors on Tuesday, the Orlando star is in “great spirits,” according to coach Jamahl Mosley.

“Paolo’s doing well,” Mosley said inside the AdventHealth Training Center after shootaround. “He’s been going through some non-contact, hard weight room workouts with our training staff.

“Being with the team, his communication with the guys has been great,” Mosley added. “The things that he’s seeing while he’s not playing are always at a high level.”

Banchero was spotted after shootaround going through some dribbling hand-eye coordination drills as well as some light shooting near the basket under the watch of Mosley, assistant coach God Shammgod and high performance director Arnie Kander.

Before the injury he suffered last Wednesday at New York, Banchero was averaging 21.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest across the first 12 games of the season.

While Banchero’s status was made clear, whether or not Jalen Suggs (sore right groin) would be able suit up against Golden State was still up in the air heading into Tuesday night.

Suggs was able to go through the team’s morning walkthrough but it was mostly non-contact work, Mosley said. Suggs sat out Sunday’s game at Houston because of the injury he suffered late in last Friday’s game against Brooklyn.

Wagner doc

A German film crew is following Magic stars Franz and Moe Wagner again this season.

The Wagner Brothers,” a documentary series produced for public television in their home country, dropped its first four-episode season last December and the producers returned to Orlando this week to capture more behind-the-scenes footage.

“It’s really cool,” Franz Wagner said Tuesday. “It’s going to be the second season, and we’re really happy with how the first one turned out. It’s cool for the people watching, we can show them some cool stuff that maybe not everybody else will show.

“It’s a super cool feeling to be in that position and we just want to do our part to maybe help the next generation as well,” he added.

Penda on assignment

The Magic sent second-round pick Noah Penda down to spend time with Osceola, the club’s G League affiliate, Tuesday morning.

Penda was a part of Orlando’s rotation during a four-game stretch at the end of October and into early November, but hasn’t seen the court often the past two weeks. Playing under Osceola coach Dylan Murphy, Penda will have a chance to play significantly more than if he was up with Orlando.

Osceola plays back-to-back games on the road against the Austin Spurs on Wednesday and Thursday.
