The Memphis Grizzlies (4-10) travel to face the San Antonio Spurs (9-4) tonight at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.

This matchup arrives with diminished star power. Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is out for a few weeks with a calf strain, while Ja Morant will also miss tonight’s game with the same injury. Guard Stephon Castle is expected to be out 1–2 weeks due to a hip flexor issue.

Memphis has been losing with Morant and without him. Last Wednesday, the Grizzlies were blown out by the Boston Celtics 131–95. Their offense has struggled, scoring just 111.9 points per game, and their defense is among the league’s worst, allowing 119.8 points per game.

Morant’s play has been abysmal this season. He’s shooting just 35.9% from the field, more than 10 percentage points below his career average. The lone bright spot has been the emergence of rookie Cedric Coward, who’s averaging 14.0 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game.

Wembanyama had been having a phenomenal season before getting injured, averaging 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, and 4.0 assists. Still, the Spurs beat the Sacramento Kings 123–110 on Sunday without him, led by De’Aaron Fox’s 28 points and Harrison Barnes’ 20. Fox gives the Spurs enough scoring punch to handle the league’s weaker teams — and he should be able to do that again tonight.

Prediction

Despite both teams dealing with injuries, San Antonio’s scoring depth and home court give them the advantage.

Prediction: Spurs 122, Grizzlies 110
