ORLANDO, Fla. — Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has been issued a warning by the NBA but will not be fined, according to a league source, after an incident with a fan during Sunday night’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The incident occurred with 2 minutes, 2 seconds left in the second quarter when Green walked over to where the fan was sitting courtside. The two exchanged words, but the situation did not escalate. When asked about it after the game, Green said the fan “kept calling me a woman.”

The fan, who later identified himself as Sam Green, 35, from New Orleans, told The Associated Press he kept chanting “Angel Reese” at Green because he had many rebounds but few shot attempts.

“He just kept calling me a woman. It was a good joke at first, but you can’t keep calling me a woman,” Green said. “I’ve got four kids, one on the way. You can’t keep calling me a woman.”

Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski was one of the first players to go over to where Green and the fan were having the exchange. Podziemski said Tuesday that he wanted to ensure the situation didn’t escalate.

“I heard the fan chirping at Dray the entire game,” Podziemski said after Tuesday’s shootaround. “Or the first portion until he went up to him. I was just making sure Dray didn’t get into any altercation that would cause him or us games or anything like that. Just reminded him it ain’t worth it.”

Podziemski said players hear from fans pretty consistently throughout the night but try not to pay attention to what is being said.

“It probably happens more often than we notice,” Podziemski said. “But at least for me, personally, I just try to tune it out and not listen to it. I obviously know Dray’s been around the league for a long time, so he’s gonna handle it how he handles it. But it’s our job as teammates to be there and have his back.”

Green scored 8 points while adding 10 rebounds and six assists in the Warriors’ 124-106 win. The Warriors improved to 9-6 and will play the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night.
