PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers got back at it on Monday as they played host to the Los Angeles Clippers looking to get back in the win column. The Sixers had two days off and got healthier with the return of Paul George while the Clippers were on the second night of a back-to-back so the opportunity was there for Philadelphia.

It was a struggle early as the Clippers looked like the team with two days off on their way to building a 13-point lead. However, the Sixers found their groove after halftime and rallied to win the game 110-108 and improve to 8-5 on the year despite the efforts of Clippers star James Harden.

The Sixers were led by Tyrese Maxey who had 39 points and six assists while Andre Drummond had 14 points and 18 rebounds. VJ Edgecombe had 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists, while George had nine and seven rebounds in his first game back since March 4. Dominick Barlow had seven, and Quentin Grimes added 19 huge points off the bench.

Here are the player grades following the win:

Tyrese Maxey: A-plus

Looking to get George and others involved early, Maxey got off to something of a slow start in terms of his own scoring output. He did knock down a corner 3 to get things rolling, but the Clippers shaded a lot of attention his way led by defensive stud Kris Dunn. To his credit, he stayed aggressive and continued to attack the paint to make things happen on the offensive end of the floor. He eventually did find his rhythm and carried Philadelphia’s offense against this stingy Clippers defense. He was the only consistent scoring option for the Sixers in this one. The 3-pointers he made with the game on the line were cold-blooded.

VJ Edgecombe: B-plus

The Sixers needed somebody to give them some consistent scoring in this one and the rookie stepped up. Edgecombe is continuing to learn the ins and outs of the NBA, but it’s obvious that he is going to be a real player in this league. It seems as if he learns something new every game. Overall, there were some tough moments in this one, but Edgecombe continued to keep fighting and make an impact for Philadelphia. He made some big plays in the fourth quarter.

Paul George: C-plus

The return for George started with him drilling a wing triple and then getting fouled on a 3-point attempt as he showed an aggressive style of play early. His first stint saw him shoot 1-for-4 from the floor, but the aggression is a good sign for Philadelphia. Overall, it wasn’t a terrible return, but the Sixers will need him to find his offensive game to give this team a boost in that department. In his defense, it’s hard to find a rhythm in such short stints. This will be a bit of a slow process to get him back into rhythm again.

Dominick Barlow: B-minus

Moving back into the starting lineup, Barlow was active early. He is a guy who qualifies for the “this guy makes things happen” category and he made things happen for Philadelphia with his activity as he picked up a couple of steals early. As far as the offense is concerned, he was effective around the basket. The Sixers did a good job of finding him in the dunker spot and he used his soft touch to finish.

Andre Drummond: A

The 2-time All-Star was a presence on the glass in the early going which led to a solid night rebounding the ball. It was an adventure defensively against Clippers big man Ivica Zubac, but the Sixers will take Drummond being a presence rebounding the ball and giving them good production on the offensive end in the paint. He knocked down a corner 3 when the Clippers left him open and had an overall efficient night on the offensive end.

Quentin Grimes: A

Grimes hopped off the bench and drilled a triple early, but other than that, he didn’t do much in his initial stint. He started the second half and gave the Sixers some offensive production on a night they really needed it including some huge hoops in the fourth to keep the Clippers at bay. His ability to hop off the bench and produce for Philadelphia is a big positive for this group.

Trendon Watford: B-plus

Watford had his hand in the cookie jar early as he fouled Harden on a 3-pointer and had a tough time really staying with The Beard. He did have some nice finishes around the basket while being effective on the glass so the Sixers will take that.

Justin Edwards: D

The initial stint for Edwards was a mixed bag. He had a tough time converting on his open looks and had some defensive trouble as he picked up a couple of silly fouls, but he moved the ball well and gave Philadelphia a boost with his playmaking ability. To his credit, he did give a good effort on either end of the floor.

Jared McCain: Incomplete

The initial stint for McCain didn’t produce anything. He didn’t come up with a stat in the five minutes he played. He didn’t get a look in the second half.

Jabari Walker: Incomplete

Walker had a non-descript first stint. He missed his only shot attempt and didn’t do much in his first four minutes. He didn’t get a look in the rotation in the second half.
