Even with seeing his lightest workload in years, Ayo Dosunmu is turning in the most polished basketball of his career. The Chicago-born guard, once known for picking his moments as a scorer and prioritizing setup duties, has shifted into a far more aggressive offensive role. He’s now averaging 15.7 points in just 25.5 minutes per game, a clear sign of how confidently he’s attacking this season.

Ayo Dosunmu is putting together a remarkably efficient season, averaging 15.7 points per game on 55.4 percent shooting from the field, 46.5 percent from three, and 90.6 percent at the line. Those numbers place him in rare territory, giving him the highest scoring average of any player currently posting 50/40/90 splits.
Ayo Dosunmu’s aggression paying off for the Bulls

Dosunmu’s surge stems largely from a much more aggressive mindset. Even with his minutes dipping by five compared to last season, he’s taking a career-high 10.2 shots per game and hunting looks from every spot on the floor.
He’s getting about a third of his attempts at the rim, launching 38.4 percent of them from beyond the arc, and filling in the rest from the midrange, giving him the kind of varied shot profile that keeps defenses guessing.

It’s clear that this level of efficiency won’t hold forever. Dosunmu is knocking down 55.4 percent of his shots and a scorching 46.5 percent of his threes, numbers that almost guarantee some regression. Even for a historically efficient scorer, carrying a true shooting percentage above 68 percent is nearly impossible to maintain across a full season.
Still, he has taken a real step forward. He’s making quicker decisions, playing with visible confidence, and refining his shot selection. Even when his percentages eventually cool off, the improvement he’s showing should remain.
Can Dosunmu become this year’s Most Improved Player?

Even if his percentages eventually level off, Dosunmu’s approach has clearly evolved. He’s attacking angles with far more intention, and instead of waiting for defenses to dictate his options, he’s flipping the script.
His knack for getting to the line has also become a meaningful part of his growth, especially since he’s knocking down free throws at just over 90 percent. Dosunmu is earning 2.9 trips to the stripe per game compared to 1.7 a season ago, and he’s doing it while playing fewer minutes. That jump points to a genuine step forward in how he pressures defenses and embraces contact.
At the pace he’s on, Dosunmu is on track to close this season with the strongest campaign of his career.
