Jamal Murray reacts to his three-point basket against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Jamal Murray is playing at an All-Star level and should be an All-Star this season.
At this point, Murray might be the best player in the league never make an All-Star team.
Murray’s career and place in Nuggets lore is set, but for one reason or another — whether it is from nagging injuries or untimely ones — Murray hasn’t reached the heights in the regular season that he’s regularly fulfilled in the postseason.
This season feels different, especially with how he’s started it.
Murray is averaging a career-high 23.1 points, 6.1 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game while shooting 46.7% overall and 35.7% on 3-pointers. Murray is also getting to the line more than he ever has in his career, averaging 4.2 free throws per game and shooting 94% on his free throws.

“I’m just focused on having a really great November,” Murray said at Nuggets media day. “That’s my biggest thing, having a great November.”
Murray’s great November isn’t by accident, but is the result of the work he put in in the offseason.
“Jamal had an amazing summer,” Nuggets coach David Adelman said during media days. “He looks good. I think mentally, he’s great.”

Murray has already taken 52 field goal attempts less than five feet away from the rim,per to NBA Stats. Last season, Murray shot a total of 255 of those same shots. He’s already 20 percent of the way to his total from last year and on pace to eclipse last year’s mark by over 100 attempts.
Murray’s 11.3 drives per game lead the Nuggets by far (Nikola Jokić is the next closest with 3.3), and while Denver doesn’t play a ton of isolation, Murray ranks in the 91st percentile in efficiency when he’s asked to do it.
Every Murray positive is a weight lifted off of Jokić’s shoulders. And if he can continue to help Jokic carry the load this season, he’ll do more than make the revamped All-Star Game.
“I’m just trying to win another championship.”
