UConn improved to 4-0 on Saturday night when it held off then-No. 7 BYU at TD Garden in Boston for an 86-84 victory in a Hall of Fame Series battle. The Huskies never trailed in the second half after opening an 11-point halftime lead and weathered a late run by the Cougars to remain unbeaten. Redshirt senior Alex Karaban, Georgia transfer Silas Demary Jr., and senior Tarris Reed Jr. scored 21 points each for UConn, with Reed getting eight rebounds and Demary handing out seven assists. Karaban was 4-of-4 from 3-point range.
Arizona took the lead for good on junior Jaden Bradley’s 3-pointer with 1:23 left as the Wildcats topped then-No. 15 UCLA 69-65 on Friday night in a Hall of Fame Series game at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. Junior Anthony Dell’Orso came off the bench to score 20 points while Bradley finished with 15. Junior Motiejus Krivas added 10 points, and senior Tobe Awaka had 10 rebounds to go with eight points.
The teams have met just once previously, with UConn beating Arizona 65-63 in the Elite Eight on its way to the 2011 NCAA championship. The Wildcats finished 24-13 last season with a loss to Duke in the Sweet Sixteen, while the Huskies were 24-11 after losing to eventual national champion Florida in the second round.
