Illinois last played on Friday night, cruising to an 84-65 victory over visiting Colgate, overcoming 37.7% shooting with 19 offensive rebounds, which led to 22 second-chance points. Montenegrin freshman David Mirkovic went off for 27 points and 21 rebounds while fellow freshman Keaton Wagner scored 19 points and senior Kylan Boswell added 11. The Fighting Illini helped its cause with 21-of-24 (87.5%) shooting from the foul line.

Alabama played a tight battle with visiting then-No. 2 Purdue on Thursday night before the Boilermakers took control with an 11-3 run in the second half on their way to an 87-80 victory, handing the Crimson Tide their first loss. Junior Aden Holloway led the offense with 21 points, with Florida State transfer Taylor Bol Bowen scoring 13 points and sophomore Aiden Sherrell dropping 12. Sophomore Labaron Philon Jr. added 11 points, seven assists, and three steals. A 52-28 rebounding advantage for Purdue played a big role in the outcome. 

Alabama has won the last four games in the series to take a 4-1 lead, including last season’s 100-87 victory in Birmingham, Alabama, on Nov. 20. The Crimson Tide ended a 28-9 season with a loss to Duke in the Elite Eight while Illinois’ 22-13 campaign wrapped up with a second-round NCAA tournament loss to Kentucky.
