BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The Oklahoma City Thunder’s Book Bus visited two Broken Arrow elementary schools on Thursday.
The bus visited both Aspen Creek and Creekwood Elementary.
The Thunder Book Bus is a community outreach program that brings a large mobile trailer filled with books to kids in the community.
Each kid receives a free book they’re able to keep instead of only being able to borrow them from a school or community library.
“We have a book fair in fall and spring,” said Kristen Allen, the Library Specialist at Creekwood Elementary School. “Not all kids get to pick a book due to financial circumstances. If we can offer a free book or free access to books, it’s very important for them.”
The Thunder Book Bus makes stops in the fall and spring to schools who apply for a visit, just like Kristen did for Creekwood Elementary.
The Thunder Book Bus travels all over the state with the hope students get a book they connect with, leading them to continue working on their reading skills.
