Zion Williamson has missed the New Orleans Pelicans’ last eight games due to a lingering hamstring injury. The 25-year-old has had a relatively strong start to the new NBA season, averaging 22.8 points on 48.7% shooting, 6.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.0 steals in 31.4 minutes per contest. Injuries, however, have been an issue again for the former No. 1 overall pick, with Williamson being limited to just five games so far this season.
Williamson, however, has been working hard behind the scenes to get himself back on the court. The Pelicans are in action on Wednesday night against the Denver Nuggets, and they made an announcement right before tip-off.

Williamson entered the NBA in 2019 as one of the biggest prospects in league history. Unfortunately, injuries have prevented the former Duke Blue Devils star from reaching his full potential.
The most he’s played in a season is 70 games during the 2023-24 campaign. In his other five seasons in the NBA, Williamson has suited up in just 149 games in total.
The good news for the Pelicans is that their star forward is finally healthy enough to make his return from his hamstring problem. New Orleans took to social media on Wednesday night to announce that Williamson will play against the Nuggets.

Williamson has been trending toward his much-anticipated return. He was listed as questionable to play for Wednesday’s game, and the Pelicans liked what they saw from him in pregame warmups, leading to their decision to give him the green light to take the court.
However, it is important to note that, given his extended absence, Williamson’s playing time may be limited in his first game back. He could also battle some rust after spending over two weeks on the shelf.

The Pelicans enter Wednesday’s contest with a 2-12 record. They are ranked dead last in the Western Conference after losing six in a row.
