The Philadelphia 76ers (8-6) travel to face the Milwaukee Bucks (8-7) tonight at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee in a Thursday night matchup between two Eastern Conference teams hit by injuries.
Philadelphia remains without Joel Embiid, who continues to sit with a knee issue. Kelly Oubre Jr., the team’s fourth-leading scorer at 16.8 points per game, is out until early December with his own knee injury, and key reserve rim protector Adem Bona is sidelined with an ankle sprain.
Milwaukee’s situation is similarly challenging—and arguably more damaging—given its reliance on Giannis Antetokounmpo. He’s out until the end of the month with a groin strain after averaging 31.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists.
Without Giannis, the Bucks lose their primary scorer, rebounder, and facilitator. Ryan Rollins (17.4 ppg) leads the remaining offense, followed by Kyle Kuzma and Myles Turner at roughly 13 points per game each.
The Sixers have been carried all season by Tyrese Maxey, who’s averaging 31.9 points per game. Quentin Grimes (17.1 ppg) remains streaky but productive, and rookie VJ Edgecombe continues to impress at 15.9 per game. Paul George will be making just his second appearance of the season tonight.
Still, Philadelphia’s lack of frontcourt firepower without Embiid and Oubre was evident in last night’s 121–112 loss to the surging Toronto Raptors. Maxey scored 24 while Grimes and Edgecombe added 21 each, but scoring dried up beyond that — and defensive lapses compounded the issue.
Prediction
With Giannis out, Milwaukee loses its two-way anchor and primary offensive engine. Philadelphia, led by Maxey’s explosive backcourt play, is better positioned to grind out a road win.
Prediction: 76ers 112, Bucks 108
