The Sacramento Kings (3-12) visit the Memphis Grizzlies (4-11) tonight in a Thursday night matchup between two Western Conference laggards at FedExForum in Memphis.
Sacramento enters on a seven-game skid and took a major hit this week with Domantas Sabonis diagnosed with a partially torn meniscus. He’ll be reevaluated in three to four weeks — a tough blow given he had just begun to heat up, highlighted by his 34-point outing against the Minnesota Timberwolves last Friday.
His absence compounds the Kings’ offensive issues, particularly with Zach LaVine’s production plummeting from 29.2 points per game in October to just 16.8 in November, including back-to-back eight-point performances.
DeMar DeRozan (18.7 PPG) remains steady, but Sacramento’s overall output — just 112 points per game, bottom-seven in the league — hasn’t been enough to keep pace in the Wild Wild West.
Memphis hasn’t fared much better, dropping five straight and averaging only 111.1 points per game. Ja Morant is out until early December with a calf strain and has struggled even when available, shooting under 30% from the field across his last 10 appearances.
The lone bright spot has been rookie Cedric Coward, who’s averaging 14.3 points per game and making an impact in the starting lineup, though it hasn’t translated to wins.
Prediction
Memphis has a slight defensive edge, and at home, that should be enough in a matchup between two teams fighting to find any offensive consistency.
Prediction: Grizzlies 117, Kings 108
