The Denver Nuggets (11-3) visit the Houston Rockets (10-3) tonight at the Toyota Center in Houston in a Friday night showdown between two Western Conference powerhouses.
These are the NBA’s top two offenses — Denver averaging 124.6 points per game, Houston at 123.9 — and both sit in the top six defensively, a combination that explains why they trail only the near-perfect Oklahoma City Thunder in the standings.
Houston enters riding a five-game winning streak. In their latest victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Alperen Sengun delivered another star-level performance with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists, highlighting his jump into elite frontcourt status.
His partnership with Kevin Durant, one of the defining scorers of his generation, has given Houston a devastating 1–2 punch, combining for nearly 49 points per game. Amen Thompson remains a stabilizing third option at 16.8 points per game, though his production has dipped recently.
Denver counters with Nikola Jokic, who is once again putting up video-game numbers. He’s averaging a triple-double — 29.1 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 11.1 assists — and has shifted from early-season facilitation to full scoring takeover mode, punctuated by a recent 55-point, 78.3% shooting night against the LA Clippers.
With Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon alongside him, Denver’s core trio combines for nearly 72 points per game, more than half of the Nuggets’ offensive output.
Prediction
This is a matchup of two elite offenses operating at peak efficiency, and it could swing either way. Home court gives the Rockets the edge. If Gordon is out, then expect a Houston win.
Prediction: Rockets 122, Nuggets 118
