Charlotte Hornets vs Los Angeles Clippers Preview

Charlotte Hornets have lost four straight games and are now sitting at 4-11. The latest defeat came on the road against the Indiana Pacers, who, with all their injuries, are currently one of the weakest teams not only in the Eastern Conference but in the entire NBA. That loss triggered LaMelo Ball to publicly express his frustration with the situation. Now rumors are circulating that the Hornets might have to make a move because if Ball insists on a trade, it will be difficult for the franchise from North Carolina to manage the dissatisfaction of its superstar. At the start of the season it looked like there was a healthy nucleus here and maybe even potential to fight for a top-10 spot in the East, but that clearly isn’t the case.

The main problem for the Hornets is that they are not good at anything. In both offensive and defensive rating they are among the 10 worst teams in the league, and with numbers like that it’s unrealistic to expect a better position than this. They also turn the ball over a lot and their shooting percentages are extremely low. And that brings us back to the first sentence of this paragraph. The Hornets don’t stand out in anything that would make them relevant. Miles Bridges is averaging 22.3 points, Ball is at 21.6 with 9.6 assists per game. Rookie Kon Knueppel is having a good first season so far, but when you sum everything up, that’s still only enough for four wins in 15 games.

If it was predictable that the Hornets wouldn’t accomplish anything significant in the NBA again this season, then it’s definitely a big surprise that the Los Angeles Clippers are sitting at the exact same 4-11, only in the Western Conference. After retaining Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Ivica Zubac over the summer, and adding Bradley Beal and Chris Paul, some went as far as to think this group of veterans could make noise in the playoffs. In the meantime, Beal’s season ended due to injury, Paul is clearly ready for retirement, and Leonard misses games here and there. And then everything falls on Harden and Zubac, and you end up with the same record the Hornets have.

The Clippers are also among the 10 worst defenses and offenses in the league, although it feels like the offensive issues are the harder ones to fix. They let Norman Powell walk to the Miami Heat way too easily—he shined in a Clippers jersey and has continued to play well in Florida. Derrick Jones and John Collins are solid rotation players, but they cannot carry a franchise to any real success in the Western Conference, Bogdan Bogdanovic can’t find his footing in Tyronn Lue’s system, and veterans Brook Lopez and Nicolas Batum aren’t contributing much either. At the end of the day, everything points toward the Clippers possibly hitting a full reset soon and starting from scratch in a rebuilding process.

Charlotte Hornets vs Los Angeles Clippers Best Betting Tip and Prediction

Even though both teams are bad defensively, the fact is they also struggle heavily on offense to create open looks. Considering the losing streaks they’re both on, it’s expected that they’ll first try to respond on that end of the floor by slowing down opposing offenses. With that in mind, we expect a game with fewer points than the posted total.
