PARKERS PRAIRIE — The Parkers Prairie girls basketball team enters the new season with experience, athleticism, and a core group looking to compete near the top half of the Section 6A field.
The Panthers enter the year off an 16-11 campaign. Senior forward Evy Grinager, senior guard Alyssa Revering, junior guard Autumn Hartman and sophomore guard Vanessa Dorn headline the returnees who played key roles in last year’s squad, bringing leadership, scoring ability, and postseason experience from multiple sports.
“This group has spent a lot of time together on the court and has experienced postseason success in volleyball and softball,” head coach Hunter Haggenmiller said. “We have a lot of athleticism on our squad, and we expect to use that to our advantage on both sides of the ball.”
Revering (8.5 ppg, 219 rebounds) and Dorn (10.6 ppg, 111 rebounds) were among the team’s most productive players a year ago, while Hartman added scoring balance with 5.0 ppg and strong rebounding.
Parkers Prairie also welcomes a wide array of depth to the roster, including seniors Alicia Penrose and Brianna Christians, juniors Anna Simonson, Kami Hoemberg, Bella Penrose, sophomores Neveah Koep and Rebekah Harstad, freshman Sydney Lorine and eighth grader Bri Skoglund.
Several saw rotational minutes last season and are expected to compete for expanded roles, which Haggenmiller believes the depth combined with the returning core will give the Panthers the tools to stay competitive in the upper tier of Section 6A
“We look to be competitive again in the top half of a new-look section,” Haggenmiller said. “If we continue to build on what we established last season, we expect to take another step forward.”
The Panthers’ schedule includes a couple early non-conference matchups before the Little Eight Conference slate kicks into full gear. Parkers Prairie will battle teamsUnderwood, Battle Lake, Ashby, Brandon-Evansville, Rothsay, Hancock, and others throughout December and January.
Parkers Prairie opens the season with an early road tilt against Verndale at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24.
