“In the NBA, it’s so easy to lose a game.” These words need to be put on a massive sign and hung in the Auerbach Center after the Boston Celtics’ 113-105 loss to the Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden this past Friday (Nov. 21) night, the worst loss of the Celtics’ season to date in what was a low-effort, low-focus outing for Boston. That quote, from Celtics reserve guard Anfernee Simons, epitomized the reality in front of Boston for that game, and was not being offered as an excuse for how the Celtics played in that loss.
In fact, Simons was one of the few bright spots in this game, with the former Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard putting up 23 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, with only teammate Jaylen Brown ahead of him in scoring with 26 points.
“20 points is nothing in the modern NBA.,” said Simons via CLNS Media. “So every possession matters, especially in the fourth quarter.”
“And (they) always say the fourth quarter is a totally different game,” he continued. “No matter if you’re down or up, it’s a totally different game.”
“Anything can happen, so our attention to detail has got to be that much better, (to) continue to play the same way that got us the lead or fight back to get us the lead.”
