Memphis Grizzlies vs Denver Nuggets Preview

The Memphis Grizzlies are one of the teams that failed to take advantage of the window that once opened for them to achieve strong results. That window existed a few seasons ago, and since then the team has been producing significantly weaker performances. Even though they currently occupy a play-in spot, that’s mostly due to the issues of other teams rather than their own strong form or level of play. After 17 games, the Grizzlies hold a record of six wins and 11 losses, slightly improved thanks to two straight victories in their last two outings. They defeated the Sacramento Kings and the Dallas Mavericks. At home, they have four wins and five losses through nine games.

When you look at the teams they’ve beaten, you realize that the only team with a better record than theirs that they managed to defeat was the Suns, and that came during a stretch when Phoenix was struggling. Poor results also led to serious tension between their best player, Ja Morant, and head coach Tuomas Iisalo, who brought to the NBA the same approach he used in Europe, constant rotations, demanding maximum energy from players in short bursts before subbing them out after 3–4 minutes. Morant is not used to that system and publicly criticized the coach. It remains to be seen how this will end, who will blink first, and whether the front office will have to pick a side. That rotation-heavy approach has resulted in six players averaging double-digit scoring, with a few others close behind.

The Denver Nuggets and their front office decided this summer to do everything in their power to build a team capable of contending for the NBA title. Several changes were made, all of which strengthened the team’s weakest area, the bench,  which is now far deeper and stronger than in previous seasons. The Nuggets have looked excellent to start the season: in 16 games, they’ve collected 12 wins and four very narrow losses. Considering their largest defeat was only six points,  in the season opener and after overtime, it’s clear they’re performing at a high level. Their most recent loss came against the Kings at home, but that was their second game in the span of 20 hours, as they had beaten the Rockets in Houston the night before.

Of course, nobody is surprised that Nikola Jokic is the team’s best player and the driving force behind everything they do. The three-time MVP is having another historic season, averaging 30 points, 13 rebounds, and nearly 11 assists per game, while shooting over 63% from the field and over 40% from three. Jamal Murray also deserves praise, as he is playing the best basketball of his career, time will tell whether he can maintain that level. Before re-injuring his hamstring, Aaron Gordon was performing at a very high level as well, and when his shot is falling, he’s the perfect complement to Jokic. It’s no surprise that Denver’s offense is among the best in the league; their defense was also among the top four for a long stretch, though it has dipped slightly in their last few games.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Denver Nuggets Best Betting Tip and Prediction

Everything in this matchup leans heavily in favor of the visitors. Despite a couple of unexpected losses, Denver remains in significantly better form than Memphis. We expect another dominant performance from Nikola Jokic, whom the home team has no real way of slowing down. Additionally, the Grizzlies’ offense is unlikely to keep pace with Denver’s, and the Nuggets should be fully motivated to secure a win in this game. On top of that, Nikola Jokic offered some mild criticism of his team, so we expect a response from the visitors.
