LAS VEGAS — Sophomore guard Bishop Boswell, redshirt sophomore forward J.P. Estrella and junior forward Cade Phillips are all expected to be available for Tennessee Basketball today against Rutgers in the Players Era Festival. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern Time on TNT and HBO Max.
Both Estrella and Boswell could be on restricted minutes while continuing their return from injury. Estrella suffered a bone bruise in his left knee last week against Rice and Boswell missed three games, first with a foot injury, then a hamstring injury.
Phillips didn’t practice Saturday due to flu symptoms.
“When (Estrella) is ready, they will tell me and we will put him back,” head coach Rick Barnes said on Sunday. “I haven’t heard anything other than he is still out.”
“(Boswell) did a little bit in practice yesterday,” Barnes said. “Yeah, I think we will see how he felt after practice yesterday. Based on practice yesterday, I think he will be able to play some.”

Tennessee will play three games in the Players Era Men’s Championship, playing Rutgers on Monday, No. 2 Houston on Tuesday then a third opponent to be determined on either Wednesday or Thursday.
Phillips returned to Tennessee practice on Sunday.
“He told me he felt a whole lot better yesterday,” Barnes said, “and he was at practice. He just didn’t participate so he has watched us do what we need to do with our game plan.”
Barnes said after the 89-60 win over Tennessee State Thursday night that the timeline for return for Estrella could be a short as “a couple weeks,” but added that it would ultimately be up to how Estrella feels.
“I don’t know,” Barnes said. “When I asked Chad (Tennessee trainer Chad Newman) about it the other day, he said he a bone bruise could be anywhere (from) a couple weeks — whatever a couple is. Somewhere there.
“I think it will be based on him and his comfort level and when he feels he is ready to go.”
Both players were previously described as day-to-day as they continue to be evaluated, according to a Tennessee spokesperson.
Boswell missed Monday’s 91-66 win over Rice with the leg injury and the 99-66 win over North Florida last week with the foot injury. He missed practice again on Wednesday afternoon.
Estrella crumpled to the court in considerable pain when he suffered the knee injury against Rice, before having to be helped off the floor. It was reported Wednesday morning that he suffered a bone bruise.
“Avoiding a serious injury was great to hear,” Tennessee assistant coach Gregg Polinsky said before practice Wednesday afternoon.
Rick Barnes on Bishop Boswell: ‘We’ve got to get him right’
Estrella, who missed all but three games last season after under-going season-ending foot surgery last November, starred for Tennessee over the first three games this season, averaging 17.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 19.7 minutes per game off the bench. He had four points and a rebound before leaving with the game against Rice.
He scored a career-high 23 points and had 10 rebounds in the 99-66 win over North Florida last week. It was his second straight double-double, after he had 17 points and 11 rebounds against Northern Kentucky on November 8. He had 12 points and five rebounds in the season-opening win over Mercer on November 3.
Boswell started the first two games of the season, totaling 11 points and 13 rebounds in 39 minutes. He played 17 minutes against Mercer and 22 against Northern Kentucky, going 3-for-5 from the 3-point line in the two games, after starting against Duke on October 26, but was scoreless in his 24 minutes on the floor.
“We’ve got to get him right,” Barnes said on Thursday. “He has had some of that pain in his hamstring and you guys know how that injury — if you don’t get it right, it lingers and we don’t want that to happen.”
