Former Florida teammates Walter Clayton Jr. and Will Richard swapped jerseys with each other after their first regular-season matchup in the NBA on Monday.
Clayton and Richard led the Gators to their third national championship last season, playing key roles as starters under coach Todd Golden. They were both drafted this year, bringing the total to nine former Gators players currently in the league.
Richard helped the Golden State Warriors to a 134-117 win over Clayton and the Utah Jazz at the Chase Center with nine points and six rebounds off the bench. Clayton went scoreless in 17 minutes, though he recorded four assists, one rebound and one block.
Clayton is averaging 5.4 points, 3.2 assists and 2.1 rebounds on 37.7% shooting from the field in 13 appearances with the Jazz. The 18th pick has finished in double figures twice, including a 10-point, six-rebound, five-assist effort on Oct. 22 in a win over the LA Clippers.
Richard, the 56th pick, is posting averages of 8.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists on 39.6% shooting from 3-point range in 16 games. He is 10th in scoring among all rookies and is one of four first-year players to score at least 30 points in a game this season.
After playing each other on Monday, Clayton and Richard will face off three more times this season as Western Conference opponents. The next meeting is on Jan. 3.
