The Phoenix Suns have been one of the surprise teams in the National Basketball Association and metro east native Jordan Goodwin has been a big part of the team’s early-season surge.

Goodwin, a former standout at Belleville Althoff and Saint Louis University, has played the best basketball of his career in helping the Suns win 10 of their past 12 games heading into this week’s action.

The 6’3” Goodwin made his first start of the season on Sunday against the San Antonio Spurs. He finished with 15 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and a steal in 33 minutes in the Suns 111-102 victory.

Over the past six games, Goodwin has averaged 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 52 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3-point range.

With the Suns missing several key players due to injuries, Goodwin has stepped in to provide great energy and tenacity to the team, as well as production. It is that same tenacity that helped him lead Althoff to a state championship in 2015 and Saint Louis U. to the NCAA Tournament in 2019.

Goodwin had 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in a victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. He had five points in the closing seconds of that game as the Suns pulled out a near-miraculous win. He also had 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists against the Atlanta Hawks.

For the season, Goodwin is averaging 7.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 45 percent from the field and 37 percent from 3-point range.
