Update: 10 p.m.
The Sacramento Kings returned home from the road trip and beat the Minnesota Timberwolves in overtime 117-112. This is the team’s second win in a row against top Western Conference teams. Makes tons of sense doesn’t it?
The Kings won the game down the stretch with effort. Defense that was stopping the ball. Diving for loose balls. A steal in the final moments by Precious Achiuwa. The crowd going crazy in true Sacramento fashion. It was a fun game.
The Kings forced the Wolves into 17 turnovers and scored 20 points off those turnovers. On the other side of the ball, the Kings finished with 27 assists and11 turnovers. They won again without shooting well from three (27%). They won fast break points and points in the paint.
Most importantly, Keegan Murray looked really good in his third game back from his thumb injury. He finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds in 44 minutes. In one of the final possessions of the game, Murray took the task of guarding Anthony Edwards one-on-one in space and forced Edwards to give the ball up. The possession resulted in a foul by the Kings but being reminded of the fact Murray is capable of that in crunch time is very reassuring. Zach LaVine sat for much of crunch time, finishing with just 7 points in 32 minutes. Most of the offense went through DeMar DeRozan, who finished with 33 points. Malik Monk played really well off the bench, scoring 22 points and providing a spark that helped the Kings get the victory. Dennis Schroder had 9 assists off the bench.
Amazing Kangz moment though as talk of a rebuild finally begins to take shape and the team starts showing signs of life on the court. (Getting Keegan back also helps.)
