The New Orleans Pelicans are one of the more fascinating teams across the NBA landscape, in part due to the overall talent on the roster. But despite this, the Pelicans haven’t been able to put a winning product out on the floor, and it has caused some tension to rise.

New Orleans has a new person leading the front office, and it could see them make some drastic moves to shake up the roster. One of those could be seeing what they could get for star forward Zion Williamson on the trade front.

In 30 games played last season for the Pelicans, Williamson still made a difference on the floor. The former first overall draft pick put up 24.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per contest.

Obviously, the injury concerns are there, but Williamson has been working to find a fix for them. New Orleans has also been rumored to be thinking about moving the star, and it could come to fruition. 

As the Pelicans continue to move forward with Williamson on the roster, the idea of trading him has grown louder. This team desperately needs a reset, and they could likely net some strong assets for the veteran star.

Williamson is still young enough for a team to take a chance on him, and his slimmed-down summer seems to have made a difference. Multiple teams across the NBA would likely get involved in trade talks, and this could see the Pelicans land a strong return.

Of course, all of this remains to be seen, and the Pelicans would need to firmly make a decision on his future with the franchise. But if the team continues to struggle on the court, Williamson could be the next star player moved around the NBA.

One team that could make a lot of sense for a potential deal is the Miami Heat. Like New Orleans, the Heat need a restart, and Williamson could be the player to help everything out.

Miami has been stuck in mediocrity for years now, and they need to make some type of move to get themselves out. Adding a talent like Williamson to the mix would be a gamble due to his injury history, but the Heat could also be willing to take the risk.

Williamson is electric on the floor when he does play, and he could fit in well with the Heat. While he doesn’t embody the Heat “culture” that has been in place, the star forward could always learn to embrace it.

Additionally, there have been many around the league who believe that Miami should do away with this mindset since it has held them back with players. Williamson could become the new face of the Heat organization, and this could ignite the fanbase that has been asking for a contending team.

If anything, Miami may need to take this risk to get itself out of the middle of the pack in the league. Miami can be a strong destination spot for players, and having someone like Williamson could go a long way.
