The Brooklyn Nets have an important offseason ahead of them as they will be able to to add plenty of young talent to the roster via the 2025 NBA Draft. Aside from that, Brooklyn will have to make decisions on who they sign in free-agency, but there is also a possibility that bigger moves could be on the mind of general manager Sean Marks and company.
“Brooklyn has veteran players, including Cameron Johnson, four first-round picks in this draft and future assets to dangle if it wants to move higher in the lottery,” ESPN’s Jeremy Woo wrote in the latest mock draft from him and Jonathan Givony. In Woo’s section of the duo expecting the Nets to take Duke forward Kon Knueppel with the eighth overall pick, Woo relayed what he has been hearing recently.
“Teams expect the Nets, who are also operating in the interest of present and future cap space, to consolidate some of what they have,” Woo continued. As Woo mentioned, Brooklyn has four picks in the first round and NBA insider Jake Fischer recently reported that the Nets are expected to attempt to trade up further in the Lottery, but time will tell if that actually happens.
Based on early reporting, it seems like the Nets may be able to engage the Philadelphia 76ers in a trade for the third overall pick in the Draft, but there is also a possibility that Daryl Morey, Philadelphia’s President of Basketball Operations, wants to use the pick to inject some youth into the roster. If a team like the 76ers is willing to move back in the Draft, or give up their pick entirely, Brooklyn has the assets to make it worth the other team’s while.
At the moment, the Nets have 13 tradeable first-round picks, allowing them to blow teams away with offers for higher Lottery picks or even players that they want to be part of the rebuild. With the expectation that Brooklyn is going to consolidate some of their assets to make moves, one can expect that some kind of sizable move is occurring between now and the Draft in June.
