The Chicago Bulls may no longer be atop the Eastern Conference like they briefly were, but they are in the thick of it. They currently sit as the top play-in seed, but they’re over .500 and just 2.5 games back of the number two seed. They could easily make a run and get a high seed in the East, thereby passing over the play-in this time. To further complement their rise, one insider pitched a trade idea for Anthony Davis (not the first one, either), but it’s going to cost a beloved young player.

More News: Chicago Bulls mega trade proposal nets Anthony Davis at high cost

The Chicago Bulls are in a good spot to pull off a blockbuster. They have a decent amount of draft picks, a few expiring contracts, and some good players they could deal. Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes believes they make a lot of sense for an easy, clean Anthony Davis deal, and he’s not the only one. So many mock trades have pitched a Davis-Chicago partnership.

The Bulls would get Davis, while the Dallas Mavericks would come away with Coby White, Nikola Vucevic, Kevin Huerter, a 2028 first-round pick (top-four protected), and a 2029 first-round swap. It would be costly, and it would give the Mavericks a young fan favorite in White, but it would bring back a possible future Hall of Famer.

Why would Chicago do this? Hughes wrote, “If Davis is healthy, he would give the fast-paced Bulls a lob threat and defensive anchor they don’t currently possess—all while theoretically making life easier for younger cornerstones Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis by providing back-line support and interior offensive punch.” The Bulls have not had a good defense, but Davis would dramatically improve that.

Furthermore, the Bulls probably only see White as a loss here, so it’s not as if the Bulls are parting with a ton of important capital. The picks are valuable, but White is the centerpiece, with Huerter and Vucevic being trade fodder that Chicago might offload in the future anyway. Plus, White may be expendable anyway. “An offense designed to feature Giddey and Buzelis on the perimeter needs less creation and more of the defense, rebounding and interior scoring Davis provides,” Hughes added.

The Bulls have the opportunity, in Hughes’ eyes, to move on from two expendable assets, a future first-round pick, and Coby White to bring in Anthony Davis, which may not be an exorbitant price after all.
