Despite their win in Charlotte, the New York Knicks received one of the worst possible updates.

According to ESPN reporter Shams Charania, Landry Shamet has suffered a sprain in his right shoulder that will sideline him for at least one month.

Including tonight’s game against the Charlotte Hornets, Shamet has now missed the Knicks’ last two outings while awaiting the results of medical tests.

The injury occurred in the matchup against the Orlando Magic, where he was limited to just three minutes. He has a history of issues in that same shoulder, and after colliding with Wendell Carter, the pain resurfaced.

The Knicks lose a key rotation piece, given his efficiency from three-point range and his growing importance as a starter. Mike Brown will now be forced to adjust the lineup once again and try to minimize the impact of his absence.

Shamet originally made the 15-man roster as one of the final selections, but his strong defensive performances and his 42.4% accuracy from beyond the arc have turned him into a crucial part of Brown’s system.

Options in the aftermath of his injury

With Shamet unavailable, Brown has turned to Miles McBride as the starting shooting guard, though the coach has also implemented several tactical tweaks.

Following the injury to Mitchell Robinson, Brown has opted to play with one traditional big instead of two, inserting Josh Hart into the starting lineup and doing what he can to compensate for the loss of one of the league’s most accurate shooters.
