Charlotte Hornets vs New York Knicks Preview

Although it didn’t look that way at the very start of the season, we can now say that the Hornets are playing their typical season. They won two of their first three games, but then continued in their recognizable rhythm, winning every fourth or fifth matchup. In the previous 10 games, the team recorded only one victory, and after 17 outings the Hornets have just four wins and as many as 13 losses, placing them 12th in the Eastern Conference standings. It can already be said that the team is several wins behind the squads fighting for the play-in, so it’s hard to imagine they can make a big enough push to get into that race.

In their most recent game, they lost to the Atlanta Hawks, even though they entered the final minutes with a lead, but failed to score for over three minutes, resulting in another defeat. As in most of the season, their best player was Kon Knueppel, the rookie from this year’s draft who is delivering very solid performances. He, together with LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller, is expected to be the foundation of the franchise in the coming years, but with such an unstable team and environment, it’s a big question how well he will develop. There are also rumors about a potential LaMelo Ball trade, as he is reportedly unhappy with the current situation. In most statistical categories the Hornets rank in the lower half of the league, but their rebounding is phenomenal, currently only the Houston Rockets have a better total rebounding rate, while their defensive rebounding is the best in the entire NBA.

The New York Knicks entered the season with big ambitions, clearly aiming to win the Eastern Conference, anything less would be considered a disappointment. However, based on current form, that goal won’t be easy to reach because the Knicks themselves are not playing particularly well. They have struggled noticeably, and in their last seven games they have alternated between wins and losses, win-loss-win-loss. Even before that they weren’t exactly dominant, which can be seen from their current record of ten wins and six losses. Still, since the season is in an early stage, the second place in the conference is still within reach, while the Pistons have separated slightly at the top. In their most recent matchup, the Knicks defeated the Nets on the road, which was only their second away win of the season in seven attempts.

What complicates things for the Knicks is their inconsistent performance against opponents with a .500 record or better. In ten games against such teams, the Knicks have only five wins and five losses. It seems they are stronger than last season, their bench is deeper and should theoretically contribute much more, but because of injuries the Knicks have rarely played at full strength. Jalen Brunson will almost certainly be part of the All-Star Weekend again this season, perhaps even earning a spot in one of the three All-NBA teams. The offense he leads, and on which the team heavily relies, is among the best in the league, but their defense definitely needs to be better than where it currently ranks.

Charlotte Hornets vs New York Knicks Best Betting Tip and Prediction

The Hornets are not in a good situation, as there is a lot of talk about a potential LaMelo Ball trade, and when the team’s biggest star is unhappy, that can never be a good sign. On top of that, the Knicks have a more talented roster, and it’s time for them to start producing more consistent results this season. The hosts simply don’t have a way to stop the visitors’ best players, and we believe Jalen Brunson will deliver another strong performance to lead his team to victory.
